Happy New years!

I know a lot of you probably made resolutions with food for the new year, and this smoothie is the perfect addition to a balanced diet.

I have been working for the last year on some food photography projects with Meri Raffetto at 3 Tomatoes. I essentially make the recipe, style the food, and photograph away. I love getting to be creative in so many different ways with this project.

This come from a recipe for dates stuffed with walnuts and then rolled in sugar and orange zest. Totally delish. But then I wanted to take it to the next level. My favorite smoothie place in Costa Mesa makes a date nut smoothie, so inspired me to make this creation.

Orange-zested Date Nute Smoothie

  • 1 cup of your favorite thicker nut milk or coconut milk (this time I used hazelnut)
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • Zest of 1/2 orange
  • 4 small pitted dates
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • handful of ice
  • Blend ingredients until smooth. Adjust sweetness to your liking (can add agave or maple syrup). It also helps to have a high-powered blender.
